Dhanbad, February 13: A high-tech cheating scandal has been uncovered during the SSC MTS online examination in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand. Police arrested two candidates and a staff member from the Minerva Digital Examination Center in the Govindpur police station area after the incident came to light.
City SP Ritvik Srivastava held a press conference on Friday, revealing that the exams took place from February 4 to 12. On February 12, the center coordinator reported that some candidates were receiving answers using technical devices. Upon receiving this information, the Govindpur police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation.
During the search, police recovered Bluetooth devices and spy earpieces from two candidates. It was revealed during questioning that the registration manager of the examination center, Shashi Kumar, had facilitated the provision of these devices. Answers were being relayed to the candidates by accomplices waiting outside. The entire scheme had been premeditated.
The arrested candidates have been identified as Raunak Kumar from Ramchandrapur in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district and Bittu Kumar from Kochgaon. Shashi Kumar, the registration manager at the examination center from Dayamchak in Nalanda district, was also apprehended.
The investigation further uncovered that a sum of eight lakh rupees was demanded for facilitating cheating for each candidate, with two and a half lakh rupees already paid in advance. Police found WhatsApp chats, admission letters, and transaction-related evidence on the accused’s mobile phone. A case has been registered at the Govindpur police station regarding this matter.
Authorities are currently investigating the entire network, and raids are ongoing to apprehend other suspects. The seized materials include two Bluetooth devices, spy earpieces, and mobile phones.
