Lucknow, June 20: A tragic incident occurred in Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, where three young men drowned while bathing in the Pahuj River.
Officials reported that the drowning took place near the village of Gopalpura in Jalaun district. The victims were part of a group of over 12 young men from the villages of Lidhoura and Atiyanpura in Madhya Pradesh‘s Bhind district, who had gathered to attend a wedding ceremony.
According to police, the group decided to bathe in the river to escape the heat. While swimming, some of the young men ventured into a deeper part of the river, where the current was strong.
Sudden changes in the riverbed’s depth caused the three to be swept away by the swift current. Their companions attempted to rescue them, but the strong flow made it impossible.
As the seriousness of the situation became apparent, panic ensued. Local residents immediately informed the police. Teams from Madhogarh police station arrived on the scene and quickly initiated a search operation with the help of local divers and villagers.
After extensive efforts, the bodies of the three young men were recovered from the river. They were identified as Jagmohan Baghel (19), Sudip Baghel (17), and Avnibh Yadav (20).
The police have taken possession of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. The joyful atmosphere of the wedding ceremony turned to sorrow as the families of the deceased received the heartbreaking news.
The police are investigating every aspect of the incident, including whether negligence or a lack of awareness about the river’s conditions contributed to the tragedy.
Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when entering rivers, especially during the summer months when it is difficult to gauge water levels and currents.
