New Delhi, June 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Odisha on June 20, accompanied by President Droupadi Murmu. This visit is a rare and significant occasion for the state.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Prime Minister Modi announced, “I will be in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, on June 20.” This visit is particularly special as the President will join the event. Mayurbhanj is also the home district of President Droupadi Murmu. The Prime Minister and the President will be in the village of Pahadpur, followed by participation in a program celebrating two years of the Odisha government. During this event, development projects worth over ₹47,000 crores will either be inaugurated or their foundations will be laid.
Around 11:15 AM, the President and Prime Minister will visit Pahadpur village in Mayurbhanj district. They will worship at the sacred groves of Santhali Jehera and Ho Jehera, as well as at the skill center and Pahadpur school. This visit will highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen educational opportunities, skill development, and socio-economic empowerment in tribal and rural areas.
At approximately 1 PM, the President and Prime Minister will attend a program in Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, marking two years of the Odisha government. The theme of the event is “Vikas Dhara, Odisha Sara.” During this program, various development projects worth over ₹47,600 crores will be inaugurated and their foundations laid. The Prime Minister will also address the gathering.
The projects inaugurated will cover key sectors such as energy, industrial infrastructure, road connectivity, drinking water, health, education, tourism, and irrigation. These initiatives aim to strengthen infrastructure across Odisha, improve connectivity, enhance energy security, and create employment opportunities. Reflecting the Prime Minister’s vision for inclusive and holistic development, these efforts will accelerate growth in tribal and rural areas, ensuring the benefits reach every corner of the state.
Key projects that will have their foundations laid include the 600 MW Upper Indravati Pump Storage Project and the Phase-II expansion of the IB Thermal Power Station, which will add two units of 660 MW. These projects will enhance energy security in Odisha and promote economic growth. Additionally, the foundation stone for the Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited (BCGCL) project in Lakhanpur, Jharsuguda district, will be laid. This initiative will promote the clean use of domestic coal resources, reduce import dependence, and create new industrial and employment opportunities in the region.
Other projects set to have their foundations laid include a 300 TPD capacity source-separated municipal solid waste-based compressed biogas plant in Bhubaneswar, a bridge over the Kathajodi River connecting Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, widening and strengthening of the Dhalpur-Harbhanga road in Boudh district, and the construction of a four-lane segment of NH-353 from Nuapada to Ghatipada. The Kusumdehi Mega Lift Irrigation Project, IGNOU Regional Centre, and an indoor badminton complex in Rayagada will also be inaugurated.
A 300-bed district headquarters hospital building will be inaugurated in Boudh, along with 24 Atal bus stands and nine automated testing centers across various districts in Odisha. These projects are expected to strengthen healthcare and public transport infrastructure in the state. Other significant projects to be inaugurated include the Nayagarh town bypass on NH-57, the underground pipeline component of the Kusumi Smart Irrigation Project, and multi-tracking projects on various roads.
