Jammu, June 20: A moment of pride for Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir arrived when Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented ‘Ramban Honey’ as a gift to world leaders during the G7 summit. This gesture has brought global recognition to this unique product from the Chenab Valley, sparking excitement among local farmers and beekeepers.
‘Ramban Honey’ is primarily produced in the Banihal area of Ramban district. It is renowned for its natural purity, distinct flavor, aroma, and high nutritional value. Sourced from Himalayan flora and wildflowers, this honey is derived from the nectar of rare plants found around Rajgarh, Gul, Pir Panjal, and Jawahar Tunnel. It is rich in natural antioxidants, enzymes, and other bioactive compounds, making it highly beneficial for health.
Prepared using traditional and eco-friendly methods, Ramban Honey is not only a quality product but also a vital source of livelihood for hundreds of farmers and beekeepers. The presentation of this honey at a prestigious international platform like the G7 summit is expected to boost both its demand and recognition.
Expressing joy over this achievement, beekeeper Qasim Mohammad shared that this work has been a family tradition for generations. He noted, “My father used to do this work, and now I am continuing it. Our honey has been recognized under the ‘One District, One Product’ initiative. We are extremely happy that it was gifted to foreign leaders at the G7 summit. We believe that better days are ahead for us.”
He added that approximately 800 people are involved in this business, and Prime Minister Modi has played a crucial role in bringing their product to the international market. Qasim expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister and the relevant government departments for this recognition, which has uplifted the morale of honey producers.
Agriculture officer Ayaz Ahmad Rishi also welcomed the Prime Minister’s initiative. He stated that gifting Ramban Honey to global leaders at the G7 summit will positively impact its marketing. With international recognition, demand is expected to rise, significantly increasing farmers’ incomes.
