New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Tuesday that the signing of an agreement regarding the Kishau Multi-Purpose Project marks a significant step towards enhancing water availability in the Yamuna River. This project is expected to directly benefit Haryana and five other states: Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Rajasthan.
Speaking to the media after a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Saini emphasized the importance of this agreement. He noted that the collaborative effort among these six states has paved the way for a consensus that has been pending for years.
Saini expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Shah for their roles in facilitating this agreement. He also thanked Union Minister of Jal Shakti C.R. Patil for his continuous efforts in coordinating with the relevant states and departments to expedite the Kishau Project.
The Chief Minister explained that Haryana’s share of water from the Yamuna is 48 percent. He described the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a major achievement, stating that the increased availability of water in the Yamuna will directly benefit Haryana. Alongside the Kishau Project, the Renuka-ji and Lakhwar projects are also crucial for the state, with construction already underway on both.
Saini highlighted that the three projects combined will provide Haryana with approximately 1,143 million cubic meters (MCM) of water. Together, they will increase water availability by 2,676 cusecs, of which 1,280 cusecs will be allocated to Haryana.
