AAP Leaders Condemn Police Action Against CJP Protests as Dark Day for Democracy
AAP leaders criticize police actions against CJP protests, calling it a dark day for democracy and demanding fair elections.

New Delhi, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has leveled serious accusations against the police and the central government regarding the recent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CJP) in New Delhi. AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed that law enforcement acted ruthlessly against demonstrators on government orders. Fellow party leader Gopal Rai described the disruption of metro and rail services and the heavy police presence as a “dark day” in India’s democratic history.
Speaking to reporters, Bhardwaj stated that police detained AAP workers during the protests, dragging them away and taking them to stations. Many individuals have reportedly been held for two days without release.
Bhardwaj further alleged that the Delhi police are protecting right-wing elements, warning that such actions could tarnish India’s international reputation. He commented on Congress’s role, noting that the party’s decisions are its own, but emphasized that youth from various organizations, including the Left and AAP, have rallied together during protests.
Describing the demonstrations as a people’s movement, Bhardwaj asserted that the protests have garnered significant support. Despite heavy police deployment, restrictions on rail and metro services, border closures, and internet shutdowns, around 7,000 young people were reportedly willing to be arrested. He interpreted this as a sign of change in the country, insisting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot halt this transformation.
Gopal Rai criticized the government’s actions to suppress the protests, labeling it a “black day” in India’s political landscape. He accused Prime Minister Modi‘s administration of imposing a “black emergency” on the country.
Rai emphasized that the fight is about saving democracy and the nation. He highlighted the need to ensure the security of votes for fair elections, calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, action against him, and the end of the SIR process. He underscored the importance of conducting impartial elections.
