
Chennai, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Chennai on October 11, 2026, where he laid the foundation for several development projects and inaugurated others. Addressing the public, he expressed his wishes for the auspicious occasion of Navratri, highlighting the significance of Tamil Nadu as a sacred land of both Shiva and Shakti.
During his speech, Modi acknowledged the birthdays of Bharat Ratna recipients Jayaprakash Narayan and Nanaji Deshmukh, noting that their lives inspire greater dedication to national service. He also shared his recent visit to the Brain Research Centre at IIT Madras and the dedication of an additional phase of the Chennai Metro to the public.
Modi emphasized that the experience of Tamil Nadu, from temples to metro systems, reflects the spirit of contemporary India. He noted that the country draws inspiration from its cultural heritage while advancing through scientific progress and modern infrastructure, creating new opportunities. He mentioned that, with the blessings of the people, he recently completed 25 years of service in government.
Recalling his tenure as Chief Minister, Modi said he understood the expectations of the states and has worked to fulfill them as Prime Minister. He highlighted his collaborative efforts with various leaders, including Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha, and reiterated his unwavering commitment to the development of Tamil Nadu.
Urban development remains a top priority for the state, according to Modi. He believes urbanization should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a challenge, with public transport playing a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life. He pointed out that improving transportation requires more than just widening roads; it necessitates comprehensive infrastructure. Over the past decade, the metro network has expanded significantly from five cities in 2014 to 25 cities today.
Modi also reported a remarkable increase in India’s electronics exports, which have grown elevenfold since 2014, and defense exports, which have surged fifty times. This growth in manufacturing has created millions of jobs for young people, with Tamil Nadu playing a vital role in this progress. The Prime Minister noted that India is now the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally.
He stressed the importance of empowering states to strengthen India as a whole. The central government is promoting manufacturing in states like Tamil Nadu and is investing ₹17,000 crores to develop the V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi into a world-class mega container and green energy hub. Once completed, this port will be capable of handling the world’s largest container ships, positioning Tamil Nadu as a global hub for industry and transportation.
Modi concluded by expressing his vision for a continually ascending Tamil Nadu, assuring the state of the central government’s unwavering support in this endeavor. Together, he believes they can realize the dream of a developed Tamil Nadu and a prosperous India.
