Trump Condemns Deadly Attack at Riyadh Airport, Vows to Speak with Saudi Crown Prince

Riyadh, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : President Donald Trump condemned the recent deadly attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, labeling it as “horrific.” The assault resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals, including one American citizen.

Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump expressed his horror at the incident, stating, “I think it’s very terrible.” When questioned about a possible U.S. response, he hinted, “You’ll find out soon, but I can say this is a very tragic event.”

Trump plans to discuss the attack with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, emphasizing that what occurred in Saudi Arabia is unacceptable. He noted the kingdom’s defense capabilities, remarking, “They are capable of defending themselves. Saudis are good fighters, but this attack is very serious and sad.”

In response to inquiries about U.S. communications with Houthi groups, Trump mentioned ongoing discussions, saying, “We are talking to the Houthis and we’ll see what happens next.”

According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia, the attack left 12 dead and 309 injured. The deceased included four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshis, and one citizen each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan. Notably, no Indian nationals were reported among the fatalities.

On Saturday, Trump indicated he is considering whether the U.S. should participate in military actions against the Houthis in support of Saudi Arabia. “It’s possible. We will consider it,” he stated.

Addressing questions related to Iran, Trump suggested that while the U.S. might take a step back for now, it is crucial to ensure Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons in the future. He remarked that the situation appears to be calming, but warned that Iran might take additional steps before the upcoming elections, believing it could harm the U.S. However, he assured that any such actions could be swiftly dealt with.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority has not assigned blame for the attack. Nonetheless, officials from the Saudi-led coalition and a diplomatic source have accused Iran-backed Houthi rebels of being behind the assault. The Houthi group claimed responsibility for earlier attacks at the airport this week but has not yet acknowledged this latest incident.
