Maharashtra Government Seeks Urgent Central Assistance Amid Drought Crisis

Mumbai, October 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Maharashtra government is actively engaging with the central authorities regarding the severe drought affecting the state. Agriculture Minister Dattatraya Bharane shared updates on the situation, including the visit of a central team to assess the drought-impacted areas and the report submitted to the Chief Minister.

Bharane stated that the central government team has shown a positive attitude towards the issues raised in the report. He emphasized the alarming drought conditions this year, which have left farmers in dire straits. In response, the central government dispatched a special team to Maharashtra to evaluate the ground realities and the current circumstances faced by farmers.

The Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, presented a detailed account of the farmers’ plight to the central team, stressing their urgent need for assistance. The state government had already submitted a comprehensive report on the drought situation, which the central team is reviewing.

According to Bharane, the central team’s approach has been encouraging. They have taken the state government’s report and the ground situation seriously, raising hopes for an imminent announcement of a relief package for farmers.

Bharane reiterated the state’s primary demand for prompt financial assistance from the central government. Chief Minister Fadnavis has also urged that there be no delays in providing support, ensuring timely relief for the farmers in crisis. He noted that both the Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, are committed to assisting Maharashtra’s farmers and have assured all possible efforts will be made to help.
