Chandigarh, August 23: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini criticized his Punjab counterpart, Bhagwant Mann, stating that Mann is “merely passing time with jokes.”
Saini questioned Mann about the promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party to women and youth during the last elections. The party had pledged to provide women with ₹1,000 monthly. With nearly five years of governance completed and elections approaching, Saini expressed concern over the unfulfilled commitments.
He pointed out that Mann continues to ask women from the stage whether they should receive one, two, or three months’ worth of payments in their accounts. “What else could this be but a joke?” he remarked. Saini highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, which has led to industries fleeing the state, creating a job crisis for the youth. Many young people are reportedly falling into the trap of addiction due to despair and hopelessness.
Saini was addressing women at the Teej festival in the town of Ghanour, located in Punjab’s Patiala district. He emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment, self-reliance, and building a drug-free society.
The Chief Minister noted that before the elections, the Haryana government promised to provide women with ₹2,100 per month, fulfilling this commitment immediately after taking office. The government allocated ₹5,000 crore for this initiative in its first budget, benefiting 1 million women monthly.
To date, ₹2,000 crore has been transferred to women’s bank accounts under this scheme. Additionally, families with an annual income of up to ₹1.80 lakh are receiving LPG cylinders at ₹500. Financial assistance of up to ₹20 lakh is being provided to women running self-help groups. Haryana women have reportedly earned between ₹4 lakh and ₹45 lakh in just four days by participating in indigenous fairs. Pregnant women in Haryana are also receiving ₹6,000 for nutritious food. The government is also allocating plots, houses, and flats to underprivileged families.
Saini assured that once the BJP government is established in Punjab, these initiatives will be extended to the state’s residents as well. Like Haryana, all crops of Punjab farmers will be purchased at the Minimum Support Price (MSP), and a price compensation scheme will be implemented for potatoes, vegetables, and fruits. He stated that once the BJP takes over in Punjab, those involved in drug trafficking will either abandon their trade or leave the state. Employment will be provided to the youth without any bribes or expenses, and the entire network of corruption in recruitment will be dismantled.
