Bhopal, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : The Madhya Pradesh Indian Police Service Association has strongly condemned comments made by senior Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma regarding Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Narendra Rawat. These remarks followed a heated exchange during the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” program, attended by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on September 19.
In a press release issued on Monday, the association stated that DCP Rawat was responsible for managing the stage and security at the event held in Indore. During the program, a large crowd gathered, which disrupted the arrangements. The officer was fulfilling his official duties by controlling the crowd according to previously issued guidelines.
Verma made statements to the media about the police officer on duty, which the association deemed rude, offensive, and disrespectful. They condemned this behavior and urged public representatives to maintain dignity and restraint towards public servants.
Reports indicate that Verma reacted to a confrontation between DCP Rawat and the event organizers, remarking that a mere officer was acting like a “Singham,” failing to recognize that this was Indore, where many officers have come and gone. He further suggested that the officer should understand that governments change.
The association emphasized in its press note that police personnel were executing their responsibilities under official directives. They expressed concern over the language used against an officer performing his duties and called on elected representatives to maintain decorum when addressing or commenting on public servants.
This incident occurred amidst a large turnout for the student outreach program led by Rahul Gandhi. The police were responsible for crowd control and security at the venue. Videos of the altercation between the DCP and the organizers went viral, sparking political reactions.
