Ranchi, August 23: Protests erupted in Jharkhand as students demanded the cancellation of the JPSC-JSSC exams and reforms. The Ranchi police took action during the effigy burning of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, resulting in three separate FIRs. Fourteen individuals have been named as accused, along with several unidentified persons.
According to reports, the police action was based on complaints filed at the Kotwali police station. The incident is linked to a demonstration organized under the banner of the JPSC-JSSC Reform Forum. Students gathered to burn the Chief Minister’s effigy while demanding reforms in the JPSC-JSSC exams.
The situation escalated during the protest, leading to a standoff between the demonstrators and the police. In response, three FIRs were registered. The first complaint was filed by Ankita Verma, the second by Shahbaz, and the third involved a magistrate on duty.
Among those named in the FIRs are Kunal Pratap, Piyush, Ravindra Paswan, and Chandi Tiwari, along with several others. Allegations include obstructing government work, violating administrative orders, and engaging in altercations with police officers. Legal action has been initiated based on these claims.
Following the police’s actions, student organizations and members of the JPSC-JSSC Reform Forum expressed their outrage. Student leaders argue they were protesting democratically, while the police’s response was excessively harsh.
Currently, the police are investigating the matter, reviewing video footage and other evidence related to the incident. Meanwhile, student organizations are preparing to strategize their next steps in response to the police action.
