Sanaa, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Houthi officials have accused Saudi Arabia of conducting airstrikes in the Haifan district of Taiz. According to reports from the Houthi-operated Al-Masirah television, aircraft from the Saudi-led coalition carried out these attacks.
These airstrikes come as Houthi rebels have made significant territorial gains in western Yemen, capturing large portions of the Red Sea coast and advancing toward areas near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait. The United Nations reports that over 125,000 people have been displaced due to ongoing conflict since the beginning of the month.
Al-Masirah claims, citing government sources, that Saudi attacks continue in the villages of Al-Jahir and parts of Haidan, with over 135 missiles and shells launched in the last 12 hours. Additionally, there are reports of Saudi artillery strikes on the bordering districts of Rajih and Shada. Houthis also assert that shelling occurred overnight in the Sahar district, with local sources indicating an uptick in Saudi attacks targeting border areas and villages in Saada province.
The Houthis allege that Saudi Arabia has conducted hundreds of airstrikes on their controlled regions in recent days, destroying watchtowers and telecommunications infrastructure. They have also intensified their campaign against Riyadh, claiming these actions are retaliatory. Recently, Houthi rebels asserted that they targeted King Khalid International Airport near Riyadh and the Aramco refinery in Yanbu with ballistic missiles and drones.
The Saudi coalition confirmed intercepting and destroying a missile in mid-air. Previously, the Houthis released a video claiming to have shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet in Marib province, although Saudi officials have not verified this claim.
Meanwhile, a general from the Yemeni government stated that their forces have regained control over areas near Taiz. According to a military commander, the Yemeni army has retaken several key fronts west and south of Taiz city from Houthi fighters.
Major-General Abdulaziz Al-Majidi, chief of staff for the Taiz military forces, reported to the state news agency Saba that their troops defeated the Houthis in ground combat, allegedly liberating multiple locations on the outskirts of the significant city. He noted that the Houthis suffered casualties and losses in equipment during these clashes. Al-Majidi emphasized that the army thwarted the Houthi attempt to besiege Taiz, which has been divided between the internationally recognized government and the Houthis since 2015.
