United Nations, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar launched a series of rapid diplomatic meetings at the United Nations on September 21, a day before the high-level session of the General Assembly. He first met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, emphasizing the importance of regular meetings and teleconferences to maintain the momentum of the India-France strategic global partnership.
Following their discussions, which covered regional and global issues including the crises in Ukraine and the Gulf, the two leaders also exchanged views on various multilateral topics, such as reforms in the United Nations Security Council.
Jaishankar then engaged with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Roberto Quiroz. Their talks focused on enhancing collaboration in areas like energy, pharmaceuticals, people-to-people exchanges, skill training, and development partnerships on multilateral platforms, including the United Nations.
In February 2026, during President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India, the two countries elevated their relationship to the level of a special global strategic partnership. A joint statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Macron highlighted that this partnership would guide bilateral cooperation for decades, with a focus on defense and joint development in the energy sector.
Strengthening ties with the Global South, India has also bolstered its relationship with Ecuador, a resource-rich nation located on the Pacific coast of South America. Technology and pharmaceuticals are key areas of collaboration between the two countries.
Over the past five years, India has trained 223 Ecuadorian professionals. Additionally, through an IT excellence center established by India at a university in Ecuador, 813 individuals have received training. The export of pharmaceuticals from India to Ecuador remains a significant aspect of their trade relations.
