Kolkata, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Rijju Dutta, a leader of the Democratic Trinamool Congress, took aim at several political parties, including the BJP, during a recent address in Kolkata. He highlighted various issues, including the rules of the Election Commission, and directed criticism towards Naushad Siddiqui, advising him to familiarize himself with the commission’s regulations.
Regarding the controversy surrounding the election symbol linked to Siddiqui, Dutta noted that he is the sole legislator from his party, which typically allows for a free symbol to be assigned by the Election Commission. He asserted that his party received its symbol through this same process. After Siddiqui sent a letter, he was also granted a separate election symbol. Dutta emphasized that Siddiqui should understand the commission’s rules before making comments.
On the topic of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to the Supreme Court, Dutta remarked that her legal representatives, including Kalyan Banerjee, have participated in the Election Commission’s delegation twice. He characterized Banerjee’s approach as a “fascist attitude” and stated that going to court is her right. He quipped that he expected Banerjee to don a black robe for her Supreme Court appearance.
Dutta expressed that after the by-elections, his party plans to approach the Election Commission again to request the “grass and flower” election symbol, hoping for a favorable outcome in the future.
He raised multiple concerns regarding the Special Investigation Report (SIR), claiming significant flaws in the process. Dutta pointed out that many individuals are listed on the “dispute list” and urged the Supreme Court to ensure that these individuals retain their voting rights and access to government benefits until the process concludes. He argued that it is unjust to deprive the poor of government services due to disputed circumstances.
Turning his attention to Humayun Kabir, Dutta questioned why Kabir was not campaigning for his son. He accused Kabir of misleading the residents of Rejendranagar and misusing funds allegedly received under the guise of mosque donations. Dutta suggested that before criticizing other leaders, Kabir should focus on supporting his son’s campaign.
On the issue of renaming streets in Kolkata, Dutta urged the new government to prioritize fulfilling promises made to the people of Bengal. He stated that changing street and station names is not an urgent matter. While he acknowledged that there could be debate over renaming Lenin Sarani, he expressed confusion over the haste to change the name of Vishwabangla Sarani to Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Sarani.
Commenting on the arrest of Congress candidate Milan Pradhan, Dutta noted that the Congress party should have considered the implications of fielding a candidate with pending murder charges and no bail. He warned that such situations create opportunities for the BJP to gain political advantage.
Dutta also condemned a recent viral video from Bihar, describing the incident as heinous and criticizing both the Bihar government and the BJP regarding women’s safety. He stated that such acts are unacceptable in a civilized society and called for the BJP to take decisive action to ensure the safety of women in Bihar. He demanded strict measures against all individuals involved in the incident.
