Moscow, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Russia asserted on Monday that new sanctions imposed by the United States on its oil and gas exports will neither restore relations between the two nations nor facilitate peace in Ukraine.
This statement follows U.S. President Donald Trump signing a bill on Friday that enacts new sanctions targeting Russia’s energy and defense sectors, as well as its so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia has largely adapted to these sanctions and is actively seeking ways to mitigate their impact. He also mentioned that many of Russia’s trade partners oppose such measures.
In the meantime, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Trump has agreed to meet with him in New York. Zelensky expressed readiness to take significant steps toward peace in coordination with the American team.
Posting on the social media platform X, Zelensky said, “We have agreed to meet in New York, and this meeting could change a lot. There is positive momentum at the diplomatic level.”
However, he did not disclose the date of the meeting or any potential agenda. He noted that discussions covered several critical issues, but no timeline for a peace agreement or its implementation was announced.
Zelensky emphasized that establishing peace is Ukraine’s top priority. He also highlighted the importance of energy security, food security, and the protection of human life in the discussions. Proposals to reduce tensions and address fundamental security challenges are currently being considered.
He concluded by stating that Ukraine is prepared to take concrete steps in this direction, with ongoing dialogues with U.S. officials.
