Gujarat Emerges as the Leading State in Yoga Education in India

Gandhinagar, June 19: Ahead of International Yoga Day 2026, Gujarat has achieved a significant milestone in the field of yoga. Shishpal Rajput, Chairman of the Gujarat State Yoga Board, announced that under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, Gujarat has become the state with the highest number of yoga teachers and classes in the country. Currently, over 4,985 free yoga classes are being conducted across the state, with approximately 400,000 to 500,000 citizens practicing yoga daily.

Rajput emphasized that Gujarat has played a leading role in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making yoga a global movement. Since the establishment of the yoga board, yoga activities have gained unprecedented momentum. Yoga has now become an integral part of daily life for not just senior citizens, but also children, youth, women, entrepreneurs, government officials, and professionals from various fields.

In the past six years, the yoga board has trained over 150,000 certified yoga instructors, creating a vast network of yoga education in the state. Additionally, 750 yoga coaches have been permanently appointed to provide quality guidance to citizens.

As part of a statewide health awareness campaign, more than 804,000 citizens participated in 763 yoga camps held during 2026. Furthermore, over 1.2 million people have attended the ‘Yoga Samvad’ programs conducted since 2020.

To instill healthy lifestyle habits among children and youth, free summer yoga camps have seen participation from over 76,000 students in the past four years. Meanwhile, under the ‘Medaswita Mukt Gujarat Abhiyan,’ special yoga camps have engaged more than 25,000 citizens in adopting a healthier lifestyle to combat obesity.

Rajput stated that the Gujarat State Yoga Board has successfully brought yoga to every district, tehsil, and village in the state with the goals of ‘Yoga at Every Home’ and ‘Niramay Gujarat.’
