Bengaluru, August 29: The resignation of Karnataka Minister B. Nagendra has intensified the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) attacks on the Congress government. Dr. Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, BJP’s national co-in-charge for Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, stated that Nagendra’s resignation represents a significant victory in the party’s ongoing fight for tribal justice, public accountability, and against corruption.
In a statement released on Friday, Dr. Reddy emphasized that Nagendra’s resignation is a crucial step towards democratic accountability. He claimed that it is a result of the long-standing struggle against corruption led by the Karnataka BJP.
He noted that this issue transcends the fate of a single minister; it is tied to the welfare and economic empowerment of the Scheduled Tribe community, linked to the allocated funds.
Dr. Reddy highlighted serious allegations of misuse of public funds associated with the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation. He pointed out that the gravity of the situation is underscored by the suicide of an official involved in the case, reflecting the seriousness of the matter.
He clarified that the funds in question are not ordinary business funds but belong to a public institution established for the economic development of the Scheduled Tribe community. Thus, any alleged misuse of these funds directly impacts opportunities for tribal families, youth, women, and emerging entrepreneurs.
The BJP leader asserted that with such serious allegations related to the tribal welfare fund under investigation, no responsible political party could remain silent.
He commended the Karnataka BJP leadership, legislators, council members, officials, and workers for consistently pressuring the government for accountability.
Dr. Reddy stated, “The Karnataka BJP has demonstrated the role of a vigilant opposition. Our party members consistently raised this issue in the assembly and continued the fight in the council.”
According to him, the opposition’s protests persisted, forcing the government to confront questions it sought to evade.
He claimed that the movement gained such momentum that the Karnataka assembly’s monsoon session had to be concluded three days ahead of schedule due to the opposition’s relentless demands for accountability.
Dr. Reddy concluded that B. Nagendra’s resignation is not merely a political event but a significant victory for the rights of the tribal community and governmental accountability. The BJP has made it clear that it will continue its political and public movement until the complete truth of this matter is revealed.
