Third Flight with Aid and Rescue Team Arrives in Nepal

Kathmandu, August 29: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on Friday that the third flight carrying aid and an 11-member medical and tunnel rescue team has arrived in Nepal.

Jaishankar shared the news on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “The third flight from India has reached Kathmandu. Relief supplies and the medical and tunnel rescue team are now on the ground.”

This flight included 10 tons of humanitarian aid, which comprised portable generator sets, dignity kits, food packets, and water purification tablets.

On Thursday, India had dispatched a second batch of 37.5 tons of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) supplies, including medicines and food packets, to support the Himalayan nation in its relief efforts following devastating floods.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X, “India extends a helping hand. The second batch of 37.5 tons of HADR materials, medicines, and food packets has been handed over to Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation Mahabir Pun for flood relief and rescue operations in Nepal. India is committed to standing with Nepal and its people.”

On Wednesday, India sent 10 tons of HADR materials and essential medicines to assist Nepal in dealing with the catastrophic floods. India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, delivered the relief supplies to Nepal’s Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Khadka Raj Poudel late that evening.

On Thursday, Minister Jaishankar held a review meeting regarding the devastating flood situation in Nepal with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, senior officials from the ministry, and ambassadors in Kathmandu and Beijing.

Jaishankar emphasized that efforts are underway to ascertain the status and safety of Indian nationals in the affected areas.

Sharing details about the meeting, Jaishankar stated on ‘X’, “Conducted a review meeting on the flood disaster in Nepal with the Foreign Secretary, MEA team, and our ambassadors in Kathmandu and Beijing. Immediate efforts are being made to determine the status and safety of all Indians in the flood-affected areas.”
