Mumbai, August 29: AIMIM’s national spokesperson Waris Pathan has condemned the Maharashtra anti-conversion law, stating it violates the Constitution. He emphasized that every religion has the right to be practiced in its own way. Pathan asserted that Islam does not permit forcing anyone to change their religion. However, he criticized the government’s stance of imprisoning individuals who choose to convert voluntarily, labeling it a distraction tactic.
He expressed his condolences for the flood victims in Nepal, highlighting the need for compassion towards affected families. Pathan stated, “This is a violation of constitutional rights. We have previously mentioned that freedom of religion means allowing everyone to practice their faith as they wish.”
He accused the government of diverting attention from pressing issues. He pointed out the tragic case in Amravati where three children lost their lives due to a fire, questioning the government’s commitment to safety. He criticized the rising sugar prices, claiming the government is focused on spreading hatred against Muslims instead of addressing these critical matters.
Pathan further remarked, “Islam clearly states that no one should be forced to change their religion. If someone chooses to adopt a particular faith after watching a video or listening to an audio, will you imprison them? This government is merely attempting to distract the public.”
He also expressed sorrow over the tragic events in Nepal, stating, “Our hearts are heavy for the lives lost due to the floods. We extend our condolences to all families who have lost their homes and loved ones. We pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”
Regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, he mentioned that AIMIM’s president Asaduddin Owaisi would address it during the upcoming parliamentary session. He reiterated the need for India to provide comprehensive aid to Nepal, urging the government to avoid politicizing the disaster response. Pathan called for the establishment of a dedicated desk to help locate missing individuals from India who were in Nepal during the floods.
