Ranchi, August 28: The CID’s special investigation team has arrested four additional candidates linked to irregularities in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission’s Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (CGL)-2023. This action took place on Friday.
Earlier, two main suspects, Somansh Prakash and Rahul Kumar, were arrested on Thursday and have been placed under a five-day police remand for questioning. The newly arrested candidates include Deepak Kumar from Nawadih, Vijay Kumar Tiwari from Rajganj, Anand Kumar Singh from Sudamadi, and Umesh Kumar Rai from Bokaro.
During the investigation, the CID team conducted a raid late Thursday night in Bengabad, Giridih district. They apprehended Sameer, also known as Shalu, who had successfully cleared the CGL exam and is currently working as an ASO. Reports indicate that Sameer had traveled to Bengabad from Ranchi on leave. The team also searched his residence.
Several items and mobile phones were reportedly seized during the operation. The investigation agency is examining these items and digital evidence. They are also looking into the alleged mastermind Abhay Tiwari’s connections in Bengabad. Sources suggest that Tiwari’s in-laws reside in Hatbod village within the Bengabad police jurisdiction.
It is alleged that through his contacts, Tiwari attempted to assist local youths in securing jobs by providing them advantages in competitive exams. The CID is working to determine whether there was a direct link between successful candidates and the alleged paper leak network.
To this end, the agency is investigating the mobile phones, digital devices, and other potential evidence from the arrested suspects. The CID is interrogating Somansh Prakash and Rahul Kumar to uncover the entire chain of the paper leak, how the question papers reached candidates, and the roles of those involved. As the investigation progresses, it is likely that more candidates and suspects will come under scrutiny.
