The upcoming Google Pixel 10 series is shaping up to be a major release for photography enthusiasts. The lineup, expected to include the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, will officially debut on August 20, 2025.
And there’s good news for Pixel fans: reports suggest that the Pixel 10’s camera system is getting a key upgrade that will make macro photography better than ever.
Tele-Macro Capability for Pixel 10
According to a report from Android Headlines, Google is set to introduce tele-macro functionality on the Pixel 10. This popular feature — already seen on phones like the OnePlus 13 and Oppo Find N5 — allows the phone’s telephoto lens to be used for high-quality macro shots, instead of relying solely on the ultrawide lens.
How will it work? The Pixel 10’s camera software will initially use the telephoto sensor to shoot close-up photos, delivering sharp macro images without distortion. For subjects that require even closer focus, the system will intelligently switch to the ultrawide lens when needed.
This means users can expect more versatile macro shooting, with greater detail and improved sharpness — a welcome upgrade for photography lovers.
Additional Camera Upgrades: Gimbal-Like Stabilization
Beyond macro improvements, earlier leaks indicate that the Pixel 10 series will also bring enhanced image stabilization. In fact, sources suggest stabilization will be “like using the Pixel 10 on a DJI Osmo Mobile 6 gimbal — but without the actual gimbal.”
In other words, ultra-smooth video capture could soon become standard on all Pixel 10 models.
Pixel 10 Pro Camera Specs
The Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL are also rumored to feature an upgraded triple-camera system:
50MP main sensor
48MP ultrawide sensor
48MP telephoto lens
The camera bar on the Pro models is expected to be slightly thicker, likely to accommodate the improved optics and stabilization hardware.
A Big Leap for Pixel Photography
Google’s Pixel phones have long been praised for computational photography, but with the addition of tele-macro, enhanced stabilization, and upgraded sensors, the Pixel 10 lineup may push the series into an even higher tier — competing head-to-head with the best camera phones on the market.
For those waiting to upgrade, August 20 could mark one of the most exciting Pixel launches in recent years.
