New Delhi, June 23: Congress MP Akhilesh Prasad Singh raised concerns on Tuesday regarding the party’s poor performance in the Bihar Assembly elections, questioning its internal strategy. He stated that the party’s results significantly declined after he was removed from the position of Bihar Congress President.
Akhilesh Prasad Singh remarked, “At that time, I was the president of Bihar. Shah Nawaz Alam became the AICC Secretary and his first action was to remove me from my position. The subsequent results speak for themselves. If I had remained in that role, Congress would not have been limited to just five or six seats.”
Identifying himself as a “political heavyweight,” he added, “I understand Bihar well. Salman Sahib knows me well. We are part of his political arena. We comprehend the dynamics of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and several other states. However, individuals with no political background are appointed as in-charges in Bihar.”
Singh also questioned Congress’s strategy regarding minority representation. He stated, “In Kerala, you could not restrict representation. That is why the minority community was able to gain representation there. We could not have imagined that in Assam, minorities would be limited to less than 30 seats. However, through delimitation, a situation was created that restricted them to 18-20 seats. Even among those 20, 18 are from Congress.”
He further commented, “A narrative is being constructed that Congress is a party for minorities, with no connection to Hindus. If someone wins a seat in West Bengal, it is often from the minority community. This implies that Congress represents the minority community. There is an effort to create such a narrative across the country.”
The MP emphasized that appointing non-political individuals to key states is detrimental to the party. He clearly stated that if the right people were given responsibilities, Congress’s performance in Bihar would have been significantly better.
