Strengthening India-Russia Ties: Key Discussions at BRICS NSA Meeting

New Delhi, June 23: During the 16th BRICS NSA meeting, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Sergey Shoigu, the Secretary of Russia’s Security Council. They engaged in significant discussions aimed at enhancing the strategic partnership between India and Russia.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on social media platform ‘X’ that NSA Doval met Shoigu during the meeting. Both sides discussed ongoing cooperation under BRICS, which included several proposals from the Russian side.

According to Jaiswal, they reviewed the progress of collaboration across various sectors, keeping in mind the special and strategic partnership between the two nations.

During the BRICS National Security Advisors meeting, NSA Doval also met with Wang Yi. They discussed recent advancements in bilateral relations, noting that ties are gradually moving towards normalization.

Jaiswal mentioned that Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, China’s Ambassador to India, Shu Feihong, and other officials were also present at the meeting.

In a statement released on ‘X’, Shu Feihong noted that Wang Yi emphasized the need for India and China, as the world’s two most populous countries, to view their relationship not only from a long-term perspective but also from a global standpoint, fostering cooperation between the two nations.

He stated that both countries should take concrete steps to implement the significant agreements reached between their leaders. They should advance their respective development and progress through cooperation, accelerating the modernization process of the Global South.

During the meeting, Wang Yi expressed support for India’s role as the rotating chair of BRICS, stating that China is ready to work alongside India to promote the group’s growth and expansion.
