New Delhi, June 23: Gurugram Police took swift and effective action on Tuesday, exposing a conspiracy involving the preparation of fake forensic and cyber analysis reports linked to a viral video. This sensitive case has raised significant concerns.
A complaint was filed at the DLF Sector-29 police station in Gurugram under relevant sections of the law. Following the registration of the case, the crime branch team from Sector-40 successfully arrested two suspects in Gurugram on Tuesday.
According to the complaint, the complainant, who is involved in digital forensics, cyber investigations, and electronic evidence analysis, was contacted by individuals posing as senior officials from the Punjab government. They requested the complainant to prepare a forensic report regarding a viral video, which aimed to deny the identity of the person shown in the video and falsely portray all associated allegations as untrue.
The complainant reported being connected with various individuals and allegedly had reports prepared under the names of dubious or fake cyber and forensic institutions. The complaint also mentioned that a substantial sum of money was offered for preparing the report, which was repeatedly revised to steer it toward a specific conclusion.
It was alleged that the complainant was provided with a cash amount of 1 million rupees, and other individuals involved in preparing the report were paid through various means. Upon further investigation, the complainant raised serious doubts about the credibility of the involved institutions and reports. When objections were raised, the complainant reportedly received threats and was pressured not to publicize the matter.
In light of the seriousness of the complaint, Gurugram Police promptly initiated legal action. Based on preliminary investigations, technical analysis, digital evidence, financial transactions, and available facts, a case was registered at the DLF Sector-29 police station in Gurugram.
After the case was registered, a special police team was formed under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Gurugram, led by Sub-Inspector Lalit, in charge of the Sector-40 crime branch. The team acted quickly, achieving significant success by arresting the two suspects in Gurugram on Tuesday. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ankit Mahendru (25 years old, resident of Agrasen Colony, Sirsa) and Ankit (25 years old, resident of Khark Gagar, Jind).
The police team is now conducting thorough investigations to identify individuals involved in preparing the fake forensic and cyber reports, verify the legitimacy of the institutions that prepared the reports, trace the source and distribution of funds, and investigate any tampering with digital evidence. This includes a scientific analysis of electronic devices, documents, and other evidence used in the conspiracy.
