Gurugram Police Arrest Two in Viral Video Forensic Report Scam

New Delhi, June 23: Gurugram Police took swift action on Tuesday, uncovering a conspiracy involving fake forensic and cyber analysis reports linked to a viral video. This sensitive case has raised significant concerns regarding digital integrity and law enforcement.

A complaint was filed at the DLF Sector-29 police station in Gurugram. Following the registration of the case, a team from the Sector-40 Crime Branch successfully arrested two individuals involved in the scheme on the same day.

According to the complaint, the victim, who specializes in digital forensics, cyber investigations, and electronic evidence analysis, was contacted by individuals posing as senior officials from the Punjab government. They requested a forensic report related to a viral video, aiming to discredit the identity of a person depicted in the footage and dismiss all associated allegations as false.

The complainant reported being directed to various individuals who allegedly prepared reports under the names of dubious cyber and forensic agencies. The complaint also indicated that substantial financial incentives were offered for the creation of these reports, which were repeatedly modified to align with a predetermined conclusion.

It was alleged that the complainant was offered a cash sum of 1 million rupees, with payments made to others involved in the report’s preparation through various means. Upon further investigation, the complainant raised serious doubts about the credibility of the involved agencies and reports. When objections were raised, threats were reportedly made to silence the complainant and prevent public disclosure of the matter.

In light of the gravity of the situation, Gurugram Police initiated immediate legal proceedings after receiving the complaint. An FIR was registered at the DLF Sector-29 police station based on preliminary investigations, technical analysis, digital evidence, financial transactions, and available facts.

Under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), a special police team was formed, led by Sub-Inspector Lalit of the Sector-40 Crime Branch. This team achieved significant success by arresting the two accused on Tuesday. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ankit Mahendru (25 years old, resident of Aggarsain Colony, Sirsa) and Ankit (25 years old, resident of Khark Gagar, Jind).

The police team is now working to identify other individuals involved in the preparation of the fake forensic and cyber reports, verify the legitimacy of the agencies, investigate the sources and distribution of funds, and conduct a thorough analysis of all electronic devices, documents, and evidence related to the case.
