Maharashtra Launches Maha AI to Enhance Government Efficiency and Transparency

Mumbai, June 23: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the launch of ‘Maha AI’—an advanced artificial intelligence initiative aimed at improving the efficiency, security, and citizen-centric approach of state government operations. This unique initiative is the first of its kind in the country, focusing on leveraging artificial intelligence in governmental processes.

The Chief Minister stated that ‘Maha AI’ will soon be implemented across various state departments. This platform will facilitate tasks such as correspondence, note preparation, report generation, translation of government documents, summarization, and information retrieval from the government knowledge base with greater speed and accuracy.

Fadnavis made these remarks during a meeting held at the Vidhan Bhavan, where he was joined by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan, and several senior officials from various departments.

He emphasized that ‘Maha AI’ will play a crucial role in modernizing the state’s administrative system by incorporating advanced technology. Developed by the National Informatics Centre, this system is built on the infrastructure provided by the Maharashtra State Data Centre under the Electronics, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence Department. It ensures the sovereignty, privacy, and security of government information.

All sensitive government data will remain under government control, stored and processed within the state’s secure infrastructure. The ‘Maha AI’ system will enable the preparation of government letters, emails, and notes, summarization of documents, clarifications and translations, and retrieval of information related to government rules, laws, decisions, and circulars.

Additionally, the system will facilitate beneficiary verification to prevent duplication of names. It allows users to select different AI models and upload images and documents. Security features such as user-wise secure log-in, end-to-end encryption, and access control based on position will ensure the confidentiality of government documents and information.

Fadnavis indicated that in the future, ‘Maha AI’ will be utilized as a uniform AI platform across all government departments. It will also be integrated with various e-governance systems like e-office, RTI, e-HRM, and ‘Aaple Sarkar’ to enhance functionalities such as drafting, translation, summarization, information gathering, and beneficiary verification.

Presentations on the ‘Maha AI’ platform were delivered by Virendra Singh, Secretary of the Electronics, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence Department, and Sapna Kapoor, State Information and Communication Officer and Deputy Director General of the National Informatics Centre.
