BRICS National Security Advisors Meet with PM Modi to Discuss Global Challenges

New Delhi, June 23: Following a two-day event for the 16th BRICS National Security Advisors (NSA) meeting, national security advisors and senior security officials from BRICS nations met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his pleasure at meeting the security advisors and officials through a post on the social media platform ‘X’.

He stated, “In the changing global environment, the role of BRICS is crucial. It can help strengthen security cooperation and address shared challenges such as terrorism, cybersecurity, and new technologies. India’s presidency aims to promote practical cooperation, support the priorities of the Global South, and contribute to creating a secure, strong, and inclusive world.”

During the two-day meeting, the BRICS national security advisors and delegation heads discussed the security challenges facing the world.

According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the meeting also addressed non-traditional security challenges. These included energy security, food security, supply chain security, new technologies used by terrorist organizations, cybersecurity, and instability caused by climate change.

The MEA noted that top security officials reviewed the activities and outcomes of BRICS’s ‘Counter-Terrorism Working Group’ and the group focused on ‘Safe Use of Information and Communication Technologies’. The counter-terrorism working group met on May 21-22 this year, while the ICT-related meeting took place earlier this month.

The statement emphasized that leaders supported enhancing cooperation among BRICS nations, particularly in strengthening member capabilities, sharing information, and improving coordination among law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and cyber threats.

They reiterated their commitment to continue fighting against all forms and methods of terrorism, agreeing on the need to prevent the use of new technologies by terrorist organizations.

The national security advisors and delegation heads present at the meeting fully supported India’s BRICS presidency in 2026. After the meeting concluded, all security advisors and delegation heads met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
