BRICS National Security Advisors Meet with PM Modi to Discuss Global Challenges

New Delhi, June 23: Following a two-day event for the 16th BRICS National Security Advisors (NSA) meeting, national security advisors and senior security officials from BRICS nations met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his pleasure at meeting these security advisors and senior officials through a post on the social media platform ‘X’.

He stated, “In the changing global environment, the role of BRICS is crucial. It can help strengthen security cooperation and address shared challenges such as terrorism, cybersecurity, and new technologies. The aim of India’s presidency is to promote practical cooperation, support the priorities of the Global South, and contribute to creating a secure, strong, and inclusive world.”

During the two-day meeting, the national security advisors and delegation heads from BRICS countries discussed the security challenges facing the world.

A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) indicated that discussions also covered non-traditional security challenges, including energy security, food security, supply chain security, the new technologies used by terrorist organizations, cybersecurity, and instability caused by climate change.

According to the MEA, top security officials reviewed the activities and outcomes of BRICS’s ‘Counter-Terrorism Working Group’ and the group focused on ‘Secure Use of Information and Communication Technologies’. The counter-terrorism working group met on May 21-22 this year, while the ICT-related meeting was held earlier this month.

The statement noted that leaders supported enhancing cooperation among BRICS nations, particularly emphasizing strengthening member countries’ capacities, sharing information, and improving coordination among law enforcement agencies to jointly tackle terrorism and cyber threats.

They reiterated their commitment to continue the fight against all forms and methods of terrorism and agreed on the need to prevent the use of new technologies by terrorist organizations.

The national security advisors and delegation heads present at the meeting expressed full support for India’s BRICS presidency in 2026. After the meeting concluded, all security advisors and delegation heads met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
