Five-Day Natural Farming ‘Krishi Sakhi’ Training Concludes in Udaipur

Udaipur, 1 September (Kiran News). The five-day residential ‘Krishi Sakhi’ training programme, organized under the National Mission on Natural Farming by the Agriculture Department and Rajeevika, concluded at Vidya Bhawan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Badgaon. Sixty ‘Krishi Sakhis’ from Udaipur district were trained in natural farming practices during the programme.

Key Highlights of the Valedictory Function

The chief guest, Dr. Ajit Kumar Karnatak, Vice-Chancellor of Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, shared insights on how the Green Revolution made India self-reliant in food grains and discussed record-breaking food production achievements. He explained the difference between natural and organic farming, emphasizing the importance of seed treatments like ‘Beejamrit’, soil enrichment with ‘Jeevamrit’ and ‘Ghanjeevamrit’, and the use of plant-based solutions such as ‘Neem Astra’, ‘Agni Astra’, and ‘Dashparni Ark’ for pest and disease management. Dr. Karnatak also stressed the need to boost maize production.

Social worker Gajpal Singh Rathore called for promoting chemical-free farming and cattle-based agriculture to support the Prime Minister’s vision. Dr. Mohar Singh Meena, Principal Scientist at ATARI, highlighted the need for natural farming and informed participants about various schemes of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Dr. P.C. Bhatnagar, Senior Scientist and Head of the Centre, provided a detailed account of the training and the centre’s initiatives in natural farming. He encouraged participants to adopt an integrated farming system and contribute to advancing natural farming at the grassroots level.

Sudhir Verma, Joint Director of Agriculture Extension, emphasized the need to reduce chemically intensive farming and informed attendees about five BRC centres in the region promoting natural farming, along with details of other departmental schemes. Rajeevika District Project Manager Khyalilal Khateek shared updates on livelihood enhancement activities run by Rajeevika.

Dr. Bhagwat Singh Chauhan, Nodal Officer for the National Mission on Natural Farming, elaborated on the theoretical and practical sessions of the five-day training and shared details about educational tours conducted during the programme.

The event was attended by Assistant Director Shyam Salvi, Meetali Rathore from the Agriculture Department, Dr. Deepak Jain, Hasmukh Gehlot, Dr. Jeevan Ram Jat, Dr. Seema Dangi, Dr. Bahadur Singh, Mahipal Singh, Dhirendra Vyas, Achal Samdani, Babusingh, Sanjay Dhakad, Rajesh Sen from Seva Mandir, and Naresh from Manjari Foundation. The programme was anchored by Hasmukh Gehlot and Dr. Bhagwat Singh, with a vote of thanks delivered by Shyam Salvi.
