New Delhi, June 10: In a late-night encounter in Southeast Delhi, a police team from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) shot and apprehended a notorious criminal. The suspect was injured in the leg after he opened fire on the police and attempted to flee.
According to police reports, the ATS received a tip-off on Tuesday night about Sonu, a declared criminal from the Govindpuri area, approaching the vicinity of the Moolchand Metro Station. Acting on this information, the ATS set up a trap near the alley behind Lady Shri Ram College.
When Sonu arrived on his motorcycle, the police ordered him to stop and surrender. However, he immediately fired at the police and tried to escape. In response, Constable Akshay fired back, hitting Sonu in the right leg, causing him to fall to the ground. The police team swiftly took him into custody.
Sonu has a long criminal record, with 17 cases registered against him, including burglary, robbery, and theft. He has been evading capture for an extended period and is known to be a member of a gang involved in various criminal activities in the area.
Following the encounter, the injured Sonu was taken to the hospital for treatment. The police also seized his motorcycle.
ATS officials stated that Sonu is linked to a gang of burglars active in the region, and his arrest is expected to provide crucial leads in several pending cases across Delhi-NCR.
The police further mentioned that they will interrogate the injured suspect to locate his accomplices. Fortunately, no police personnel were injured during the encounter.
