
Mathura, June 10: In a significant operation, the police of Baldev police station, along with a reward team, achieved a major breakthrough on Tuesday night. They arrested Hambir, a notorious criminal with a bounty of ₹20,000, during an encounter on the Daulatpur underpass service road. The criminal opened fire on the police, prompting them to return fire in self-defense. Hambir was shot in the left leg and fell to the ground. He has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
According to police reports, at around 9:05 PM on June 9, 2026, the Baldev police and the reward team set up a blockade and began checking vehicles based on a tip-off. They were informed that 28-year-old Hambir, son of Ramgopal, was roaming around with intentions to commit a serious crime. When the police signaled him to stop, he attempted to flee and opened fire on the police party.
The police responded immediately, and Hambir was injured by a bullet in his left leg, causing him to fall. The police team quickly subdued him. During the search, they recovered an illegal firearm (.315 bore), one cartridge, and two spent shells from his possession.
Hambir has a lengthy criminal history, with 13 serious cases registered against him in various police stations across Mathura, Hathras, and Aligarh districts. These include charges of attempted murder (307), robbery (392), theft, and violations of the Arms Act.
On March 27, 2026, Hambir was accused of inciting violence, stone-pelting, and firing between two groups in the village of Nagla Uday Singh. Additionally, he had kidnapped the son of a villager named Brijlal, extorting ₹15,000 by threatening to kill him. Various sections of the Indian Penal Code were invoked against him at the Baldev police station. Due to his evasion, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Mathura announced a reward of ₹20,000 for information leading to his capture on April 14, 2026.
The police team involved in this operation included Station Officer Pushpendra Kumar, Sub-Inspector Intzar Ali, Umang Tyagi, Dayashankar, Veer Singh Yadav, Devdutt Singh, Alok Kumar Mishra, and members of the reward team, including Sawaj Chaudhary, Sonu Bhati, Pawan Bhati, and Surveillance Cell Officer Vikas Sharma along with their team.
