Kolkata, May 28: On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, TMC leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim addressed reporters, expressing hopes for everyone’s well-being and happiness. He emphasized the importance of living with humanity and helping one another.
Firhad Hakim’s daughter, Priyadarshini Hakim, extended Eid greetings to all. She urged that no actions should cause distress to anyone. She highlighted the need for personal choice in food within a secular country and called on the central government to ensure the protection of cows, advocating for a ban on cow slaughter.
Regarding prayers on the streets, Priyadarshini noted that such practices do not occur abroad. She stated that during Eid, they pray, and during Durga Puja, they celebrate. She emphasized the need to focus on the country’s development without targeting any community, advocating for the progress of Bengal.
Eid-ul-Azha prayers were conducted at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, where attendees exchanged greetings. One worshipper remarked on the inconvenience caused by street prayers, criticizing Mamata Banerjee for her political actions while praising Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for his good work.
Another worshipper mentioned their acceptance of the government’s policy against street prayers, stating that the prayers at Brigade Parade Ground were more enjoyable than those on Red Road.
One individual noted that this was the first time prayers were held at Brigade Parade Ground, affirming that everything was normal there. He mentioned that they would continue to pray in this manner each year, adhering to the law, while focusing on the country’s progress under the new government’s directives.
