Saharanpur, April 14: The newly inaugurated Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, built at an estimated cost of over ₹12,000 crores, has received an enthusiastic response from the youth, women, and senior citizens of Saharanpur. They believe this project will significantly ease travel, promote development, and ensure wildlife protection.
Local residents have described the corridor as a transformative initiative that will not only reduce travel time but also enhance connectivity, opening new avenues for economic growth between Uttarakhand and the national capital.
Launched on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, this project has been widely praised as a major public welfare initiative. Locals feel that improved connectivity will provide the youth with better access to education, employment, and healthcare services, sending a positive message throughout the community.
Additionally, the development of other infrastructure projects like the ‘Maa Shakambhari Corridor’ and ‘Sarsawa Air Terminal’ has further amplified the impact of this corridor.
Residents expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling this project a “historic gift” for their region. Young people particularly emphasized the benefits of reduced travel time. One student remarked, “Previously, it took four to six hours to reach Delhi or Dehradun for studies, which was exhausting and time-consuming. Now, with this new corridor, travel will be much faster, safer, and more convenient.”
Many have also noted that improved road infrastructure is expected to significantly reduce accidents. With better road conditions and organized traffic management, daily commuters are now looking forward to a more reliable and stress-free travel experience.
This corridor is also in the spotlight as it is being developed as Asia’s largest ‘wildlife corridor,’ aimed at ensuring safe passage for animals. Locals mentioned that wild animals frequently wandered onto highways, leading to accidents and endangering their lives.
A young resident stated, “What brings me the most joy is that Prime Minister Modi has considered not just humans but also animals. Previously, there were frequent accidents involving animals crossing the road. Now, they will be able to roam freely without danger.”
Senior citizens and women have also welcomed this project, recalling the difficulties they faced due to long journeys and frequent traffic jams. They noted that delays during medical emergencies often proved fatal.
One local resident shared, “It used to take several hours to reach Dehradun, and accidents were common. During emergencies, delays sometimes cost lives. Now, this expressway will make travel faster and more comfortable.”
A retired soldier recounted the challenges faced during the monsoon season, saying, “Sometimes, during heavy rains, people from Dehradun would get stuck on one side while those from Saharanpur would be stranded on the other. Landslides would block the roads, making travel impossible.”
With the opening of this corridor, residents hope that such challenges will become a thing of the past. They believe this project is a crucial step towards modern infrastructure development that also addresses environmental concerns.
The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor is expected to not only change regional connectivity but also act as a catalyst for tourism, trade, and overall socio-economic progress in Northern India.
