Delhis First Anti-Narcotics Police Station Approved by LG T.S. Sandhu

New Delhi, May 12: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, T.S. Sandhu, has approved the establishment of the capital’s first dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) police station. This initiative aims to achieve a collective goal of a ‘Drug-Free Delhi’ by 2027.

An official reported that the Lieutenant Governor announced two significant decisions on Tuesday while initiating the destruction of 1,700 kilograms of seized narcotics, valued at ₹72 crores.

LG Sandhu stated, “This morning, I participated in the destruction of seized drugs in Jahangirpuri. This sends a strong message against narcotics and organized crime.”

He also appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and lead purposeful lives. In a post on social media platform X, he urged young people to choose their life’s purpose over peer pressure. “We will ensure that there is no market, no refuge, and no acceptance of drugs in the national capital,” he added.

Sandhu emphasized that the Delhi Police is taking decisive steps to eradicate the entire narcotics network in the capital. He mentioned, “Inspired by PM Modi’s vision and the commitment of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, we have set a shared goal of a ‘Drug-Free Delhi’ by 2027.”

He expressed his pleasure in announcing the approval of Delhi’s first dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) police station. The strategy primarily focuses on crippling the economic backbone of drug traffickers while prioritizing community awareness initiatives like ‘Drugs Not Cool.’

Earlier, the LG presided over a Delhi Police event where over 12,600 phones recovered from robbers and thieves were returned to their rightful owners.

He noted, “I have been informed that this year, the Delhi Police has recovered around 16,000 devices, with a recovery rate of 74 percent. Today, more than 12,600 phones are being handed over to their owners across all districts. These figures demonstrate the strength of technology-assisted policing.”

Praising ‘Operation Vishwaas,’ the LG urged citizens to assist law enforcement agencies in combating crime. ‘Operation Vishwaas’ is an initiative by the Delhi Police aimed at returning lost, stolen, or snatched mobile phones to their original owners.

He remarked, “Such results cannot be achieved through technology alone. Behind every recovered phone is the hard work of police personnel. Constables chase leads, officers coordinate verifications, technical teams analyze inputs, and district units track phone locations.”
