Houthi Rebels Claim Missile Attacks on Israel, Ban Navigation in Red Sea

San’a, June 8: The Houthi group from Yemen claimed on Monday that it launched a series of missile strikes targeting Israeli positions in the Jaffa area. They also announced a complete ban on maritime navigation linked to Israel in the Red Sea.

According to Xinhua, Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree stated in a televised address that the missile attack on Jaffa was successful. He further declared a total restriction on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, warning that any Israeli vessels in these waters would be considered legitimate military targets from the moment of the announcement.

Saree indicated that the Houthis, in collaboration with allied groups, could escalate operations against Israel. He emphasized that as long as attacks and blockades against Yemen and its allied groups continue, the Houthis would maintain their operations, heightening tensions in the region.

On the same day, Israel reported that its Air Force retaliated against Iranian missile attacks by targeting military sites in western and central Iran. Subsequently, Iran launched more missiles towards Israel.

The Houthis, one of Iran’s closest regional allies, have controlled Yemen’s capital, San’a, and most of the northern regions since late 2014.

In response to the ongoing attacks between Iran and Israel, former U.S. President Donald Trump commented on his Truth Social platform, stating that both Israel and Iran seek an immediate ceasefire. He noted that peace negotiations are progressing, urging that foolishness or ignorance should not obstruct the path to peace.

Trump added that the blockade would remain fully enforced until a final agreement is reached, emphasizing the need for swift progress.
