Srinagar, June 8: In a significant operation aimed at eradicating drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir, the Srinagar police have seized properties valued at approximately ₹4 crore linked to two alleged drug traffickers. This action is part of the ongoing ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir Campaign’ and was conducted under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
According to police officials, the Sangam police station seized the assets of Ghulam Ahmad Dar during the investigation of FIR number 14/2026, filed under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. The estimated value of the confiscated properties is around ₹3 crore.
The seized assets include a residential house, a plot of land, and several commercial shops. Evidence gathered during the investigation indicated that these properties were acquired through illegal income generated from drug trafficking. Following the legal process, the properties were confiscated.
In another case, the Nawhatta police station seized a residential property worth nearly ₹1 crore belonging to Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, son of the late Mohammad Subhan Sheikh, under FIR number 09/2018, also filed under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. This property was similarly identified as illegally obtained through drug trafficking activities.
The police stated that these seizure actions aim to prevent the concealment, sale, or transfer of properties acquired through the illegal drug trade. The NDPS Act provides for the confiscation of assets obtained from illegal earnings to weaken the economic networks of drug trafficking.
Srinagar police emphasized their commitment to taking strict action not only against drug traffickers but also against properties acquired through illegal activities. They believe that targeting financial resources is an effective way to dismantle drug networks.
