New Delhi, August 21: The Delhi government has intensified its campaign against pollution, inspecting 2,011 industrial units between January and July 2026. Out of these, 106 units were found to be non-compliant with established environmental standards, as reported by an official on Friday.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that 78 of these units were operating without a valid Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC).
Following these inspections, the government has taken action against the violating units. Environmental compensation (EC) has been imposed in 44 cases, while orders to shut down 33 non-compliant industrial units have been issued.
Gupta emphasized that actions are being taken in accordance with relevant environmental laws and regulations. She reiterated that providing clean air to Delhi is a top priority for her government. While the government will support industries adhering to environmental regulations, it will not show leniency towards those that violate rules or contribute to air pollution in Delhi.
“Our goal is not just to take action but to effectively control pollution at its source,” Gupta stated.
She also noted that the government’s campaign is not limited to industrial pollution. Measures are being taken against other major pollution sources in Delhi, including road dust, vehicle emissions, construction and demolition activities, waste burning, and other polluting activities.
To enhance the identification and timely action against polluting activities, regular ground monitoring of industrial emissions has been strengthened.
Gupta remarked that the fight against pollution is not solely the government’s responsibility. Citizens of Delhi play a crucial role in this campaign. She urged residents to report any instances of industrial pollution, open burning of waste, dust pollution, illegal waste disposal, or any activities harmful to the environment.
A responsible report from a citizen can significantly aid in the swift identification of polluters and prompt action against them.
The Chief Minister assured that the government’s efforts to ensure clean air in Delhi will continue and become more effective. She concluded with a clear message: industries complying with environmental regulations will receive support and facilitation, while strict action will persist against those polluting Delhi’s air.
