New Delhi, August 21: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary met with Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday. The discussions revolved around several key issues related to the state’s development and financial interests.
The meeting took place at around 11 AM at the Krity Bhawan, attended by Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Janata Dal (United) National Executive President Sanjay Jha.
According to Chief Minister Chaudhary, topics discussed included India-Nepal water and dam projects, budget-related matters, tourism development, and other issues pertinent to Bihar’s interests.
Chaudhary shared images from the meeting on the social media platform X, stating that the discussions aimed to enhance coordination between the central and state governments, advancing issues related to Bihar’s development, prosperity, and public welfare.
This meeting comes at a crucial time as the Bihar government seeks increased financial support from the center for major infrastructure and development projects in the state.
There is a significant need for central funding for various schemes and projects in Bihar. Additionally, the state government is looking for extra assistance for ongoing and proposed initiatives.
One of the critical issues discussed was the Kosi-Mechi river connectivity project, for which the Bihar government is currently bearing part of the project costs.
Moreover, the state is working on several major expressways and infrastructure projects, making the timely release of funds from the center a significant concern.
However, it remains unconfirmed whether any specific requests for additional financial support were made during Friday’s meeting.
This visit marks Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s first trip to New Delhi following the Bankipur by-election. The timing is considered significant as the Bihar government emphasizes central assistance for infrastructure, irrigation, tourism, and other development programs.
Before meeting the central ministers, Chaudhary visited BJP leader Vinod Tawde’s residence to congratulate him on being reappointed as the party’s National General Secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge.
Chaudhary praised Tawde’s organizational leadership and expressed confidence that he would continue to play a crucial role in achieving new successes for the party.
The meetings during this Delhi visit are seen as an important step towards enhancing center-state coordination, especially as Bihar anticipates greater financial and institutional support for its ambitious development agenda.
