Lakshadweep, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Coast Guard has once again demonstrated its commitment to swift action, successfully rescuing a 66-year-old man in critical condition. Despite severe weather and challenging circumstances, the Coast Guard provided timely medical assistance through a coordinated effort with the Lakshadweep administration and district headquarters in Kochi and Kavaratti.
The elderly patient required urgent brain and neurological surgery, necessitating continuous oxygen support. A Dornier aircraft from the Kochi Coast Guard Air Station was dispatched to ensure the safe transport of the patient from Agatti to Kochi. Despite the patient’s serious health condition and the adverse weather conditions encountered en route, the Coast Guard team executed the mission with remarkable diligence.
Throughout the flight, the patient received continuous oxygen support, stabilizing his condition for further medical treatment upon arrival in Kochi. This operation underscores the Indian Coast Guard’s readiness to not only ensure maritime safety but also to save lives in emergency situations.
Recently, the Coast Guard also conducted another rescue mission amidst rising sea waves. This operation commenced in the dark of night, where the team successfully saved a Bangladeshi sailor in distress. The rescue took place near Diglipur, following a report from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Vijaypuram.
Upon receiving the alert, the Coast Guard Headquarters in Andaman and Nicobar swiftly mobilized resources. A 36-year-old Bangladeshi crew member aboard the MV Emeris had sustained severe injuries after falling on board, suffering serious head and spinal injuries. Given the gravity of the situation, the Coast Guard vessel Rajdhoot was dispatched for the rescue and medical evacuation.
Despite the rough seas and adverse weather, the Coast Guard personnel took significant risks to safely transfer the injured sailor to the vessel.
