Defense Minister Rajnath Singh Visits Lucknow Fire Incident Site, Expresses Condolences

Lucknow, June 23: Defense Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh canceled all his scheduled programs upon hearing about the devastating fire at a coaching center in Aliganj, Lucknow, and arrived directly at the site that night.

After inspecting the scene, he described the incident as extremely unfortunate and expressed deep condolences to the affected families, assuring that accountability would be established for those responsible.

Rajnath Singh arrived at Lucknow Airport at 9:35 PM and proceeded directly to the incident site in Puraniya, Aliganj. He gathered detailed information about the rescue and relief operations from the officials present. He instructed the administrative officers on-site to provide all possible assistance.

In a conversation with the media, Rajnath Singh stated, “This is a very unfortunate incident. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased students. The Chief Minister has announced a thorough investigation. If anyone is found responsible for this incident, accountability will be ensured.”

Following his inspection, the Defense Minister went to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) to check on the injured victims. He received updates from the doctors regarding their treatment and directed that the best medical facilities be provided to all the injured. He also assured the affected families of all possible support.

It is noteworthy that on Monday, a massive fire broke out at an animation and coaching center in Puraniya, Aliganj, filling the entire building with smoke. In their attempts to escape, many students jumped from heights, resulting in several serious injuries.

In light of the incident’s severity, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat and ADG, Lucknow Zone, Praveen Kumar have been assigned the investigation’s responsibility.

The Chief Minister has directed strict action against those responsible. Additionally, he announced financial assistance of five lakh rupees for the families of the deceased and fifty thousand rupees for the injured.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also cut short his visit to Aligarh to return to the capital, where he assessed the situation at the incident site and KGMU. He emphasized that no one would be spared and that the government stands firmly with the affected families.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also expressed his condolences following the tragedy. Senior officials, including DGP Rajeev Krishna, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, and DG Fire Services Sujit Pandey, were present at the site to oversee the rescue and relief operations.
