Jamshedpur, July 24: A tragic incident occurred at Dimna Lake in Jamshedpur, where two junior doctors from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College drowned. One doctor managed to swim to safety. The search operation for the missing doctors began early Friday morning, involving local police, divers, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The incident took place late Thursday night.
The deceased doctors have been identified as Dr. Sameer and Dr. Saksham. Dr. Saksham is from Palamu (Medininagar), while Dr. Sameer hails from the Kashidih area of Jamshedpur. The junior doctor who survived is named Dr. Yash, and police are currently questioning him regarding the incident.
According to police reports, the three junior doctors arrived at Dimna Lake late at night. They ventured into an area that had already been declared a danger zone by the authorities, prohibiting public access. Initial information suggests that while they were near the water’s edge, one doctor accidentally dropped his mobile phone into the lake. In an attempt to retrieve it, he ventured into deeper water and began to drown, prompting the other two to jump in to help.
Dr. Yash, who knows how to swim, managed to get out, but Dr. Sameer and Dr. Saksham became trapped in the deep water. After reaching safety, Dr. Yash alerted his companions and the police about the incident. Upon receiving the information, police and local administration teams rushed to the scene. Continuous rainfall had raised the water level at Dimna Lake, complicating the rescue efforts during the night. The search operation has been ongoing since morning with the assistance of divers and the NDRF.
Personal belongings, including sandals of the deceased doctors, were recovered from the site. Preliminary investigations suggest it was an accident, but police are examining all aspects of the case. Following the incident, a large number of junior doctors, physicians, and staff from MGM Medical College and Hospital gathered at Dimna Lake.
