New Delhi, July 24: A major road in the Khayala area of West Delhi collapsed unexpectedly early Friday morning at a busy intersection. During the incident, a truck loaded with bricks became trapped in the deep crater. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
Reports indicate that the road gave way near the Khayala bus stand. At that moment, a heavy truck was passing by, which fell victim to the collapse. Following the incident, authorities halted traffic on the affected route.
The truck was subsequently removed, and for safety reasons, barricades were erected around the collapsed section of the road.
Interestingly, there was no flooding in the area at the time of the collapse. The incident occurred before any rainfall, preventing a potentially serious accident. The crater formed on the main road leading from the Khayala bus stand to Keshopur Road, a route known for its heavy traffic.
This road sees a large number of vehicles and pedestrians daily. The vicinity includes Keshopur Mandi, several schools, temples, and other significant institutions, resulting in constant foot traffic. The road collapse has caused considerable inconvenience for local residents.
Residents have expressed concerns, noting that similar incidents of road collapses have occurred in various areas of West Delhi, including Janakpuri. They allege that the lack of quality control in construction work is leading to hollow roads, raising fears of a major accident in the future.
