New Delhi, July 24: The Delhi Police has labeled a viral social media claim as “false and misleading.” The claim suggested that three young men carrying food to Jantar Mantar were detained at the Nizamuddin police station.
This clarification was issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Southeast district. The statement came in response to a user on X who alleged that “three young boys were detained by Delhi Police at Nizamuddin police station for taking food to Jantar Mantar.”
The viral post stated, “Three young boys have been detained by Delhi Police at Nizamuddin police station for taking food to Jantar Mantar. Yes, you read that right! Numerous reports are emerging that young children are being detained without any reason.”
In response, the DCP for Southeast Delhi clearly stated on X, “The claim that boys carrying food to Jantar Mantar were detained at Nizamuddin police station is false and misleading.”
The Delhi Police also provided an official explanation detailing the sequence of events. According to the police, “Officers neither stopped anyone from carrying food nor created any obstruction.”
Regarding the incident, the police explained that the vehicle was stopped as part of a routine security check. The statement noted, “The vehicle was stopped only to verify the identity of the individuals on board and to ascertain their origin and destination.”
The police further stated, “During the verification of identification documents, the driver left with the vehicle and its contents.”
The clarification continued, “During questioning, the individuals in the vehicle mentioned that they were transporting food to the protest site.” The police also indicated that “the driver was sent by a friend of one of the individuals and was not personally known to them.”
The statement concluded, “Until the driver left, the officers on duty were unaware that the food was being taken for protesters.”
Rejecting allegations of wrongful detention, the Delhi Police asserted that officers were merely conducting standard verification procedures. The statement emphasized, “The police personnel were performing their duties of routine checks and verification as per regulations. The claims being made are entirely baseless and malicious, seemingly aimed at misrepresenting the standard verification process.”
This official clarification from the DCP of Southeast Delhi was issued in response to the viral claims regarding the detention of youth carrying food to Jantar Mantar.
