Cycling Rally Promotes Fitness and Drug-Free Living in New Delhi

New Delhi, August 2: The 84th edition of ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday, aimed at promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle. This year’s theme was ‘Drug-Free India,’ encouraging youth to stay fit and avoid substance abuse.

A large number of participants, including students from schools, colleges, and universities, took part in the cycling rally. They not only cycled together but also engaged in yoga and other fitness activities.

Sanjana, a silver medalist at the 2026 Asian U-23 Athletics Championship, attended the event. She stated, “I am here for the 84th edition of the Fit India Movement. This initiative brings together students from schools, colleges, and universities. Launched in 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Fit India Movement is now being advanced by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.”

Fit India Champion and certified fitness and nutrition coach Sapna Gomla remarked, “This is a remarkable step taken by the Prime Minister. The vision of a drug-free India inspires our youth. If our country remains drug-free, young people can focus on their careers, health, families, and dreams. Therefore, a drug-free India is a crucial initiative.”

Fit India Ambassador and diet and fitness expert Swati Sodhi explained, “The Fit India Movement was initiated in 2019 under the Prime Minister’s vision. It has become a nationwide public movement. Under the leadership of Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the Sunday on Cycle initiative has evolved into a national fitness movement. Today, we are celebrating the 84th edition, focusing on connecting students and youth to this mission and spreading the message of a drug-free India to every household.”

Vinay Arya, General Secretary of the Delhi Arya Samaj, commented, “In my opinion, this is one of the best initiatives by the Government of India. The way it was organized today is truly commendable. I witnessed thousands of youth participating in cycling, yoga, and other fitness activities. It felt like a professional corporate event. I applaud Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching the Fit India Movement in 2019, which has been successfully ongoing since then.”
