Imam Umar Ahmad Ilyasi Criticizes Insults Towards Prime Minister Modi

New Delhi, August 2: Imam Umar Ahmad Ilyasi, the chief imam of the All India Imam Organization, has strongly condemned the use of derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during recent protests. He emphasized that Modi is the Prime Minister of the country and should be regarded as a guardian. Such insults are not only disrespectful to the Prime Minister but also an affront to the nation itself.

In a video message, Imam Ilyasi stated, “I have a responsibility, and as an imam, I want to fulfill my duty. Over the past month, the entire country and the world have witnessed the protests that began on July 20. Everyone has the right to protest, and there is nothing wrong with it. However, it should be done within the bounds of decency.”

He pointed out that public property was damaged during these protests. Government buses and vehicles were set on fire, roads were blocked, and incidents of arson occurred. “Government property belongs to all of us, so such actions ultimately harm the public,” he added.

Imam Ilyasi remarked that while dissent and disagreements can occur within families, it does not justify disrespecting elders. He expressed disappointment over the language used by children during the protests against Prime Minister Modi, stating that it was inappropriate and disrespectful. “Our Indian culture teaches us to respect our elders,” he noted.

He further stated, “Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of this country, and we regard him as a guardian. The kind of behavior witnessed during the protests should be understood as an insult not only to the Prime Minister but to the nation as well.”

Imam Ilyasi highlighted that Modi is currently the elected Prime Minister and has received the highest civilian honors from 37 countries. “This is no small achievement. No Prime Minister in India’s history has received such recognition. When you insult him and use derogatory language, what do our values teach us? Is this our culture? What message are we trying to convey?”

He reiterated his concerns, stating, “I have been observing the protests, and I am saddened. The way you have disrespected the Prime Minister has also disrespected India.”
