Mumbai, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : A planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar is stirring controversy ahead of its scheduled date on October 2 at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Organizers from the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) have expressed their determination to proceed with the demonstration, despite objections from local residents and indications that police may deny permission.
Siddhant Bhardwaj, the national spokesperson for CJP, emphasized the significance of the protest, stating, “The entire country knows why this protest is happening. Those in power have taken control of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which is undermining democracy in our nation. We stand against those who oppose democratic values.”
The protest is planned for 4 PM on October 2, and Bhardwaj has invited citizens from across the country to join. He warned that the group would not back down, even if the government attempts to imprison demonstrators. “We will continue our protest until Gyanesh Kumar resigns,” he asserted.
Bhardwaj clarified that no specific political party or leader has been invited to the protest, encouraging any interested leaders or party members to participate.
Pranay Ahire, the Mumbai coordinator for CJP, stated that they have informed the police and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) about the protest. He declared, “Our protest will continue. No matter what the police do, we will not retreat.” Ahire questioned the criteria for granting permission to political parties for protests while denying it to CJP. He urged the public to join in large numbers, regardless of official permission.
Local residents have voiced their opposition to the CJP’s planned demonstration, asking members to leave and denying them the opportunity to express their views.
