Ahmedabad, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has responded sharply to allegations made by the Congress regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process. On Tuesday, BJP officials accused the opposition party of living in a state of political confusion, claiming that Congress has already conceded defeat in the upcoming 2027 Gujarat Assembly elections.
This reaction from the BJP came as the Gujarat Congress intensified its protests against the Election Commission. Hundreds of Congress activists took to the streets in Ahmedabad, demanding a fair investigation into the SIR process and accountability for any irregularities.
Anil Patel, the chief spokesperson for the state BJP, urged Congress leaders to stop dreaming, asserting that the party has become politically irrelevant. He emphasized that the BJP has enjoyed the support of Gujarat’s people for over three decades. Patel expressed confidence that the party’s grassroots network would lead to a significant victory in the next Assembly elections.
Patel further claimed that Congress has, in a sense, already accepted its defeat in 2027. He attributed the BJP’s growing popularity to its strong leadership and visionary approach, which he believes are drawing more people to the party.
Earlier in the day, Congress activists donned black clothing and marched from the Patang Hotel to Sardar Baug. They staged a sit-in protest and later demonstrated against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Gujarat Congress President Amit Chavda and the leader of the Congress Legislative Party, Tushar Chaudhary, led this protest. It was part of a larger campaign by Congress against allegations of voter name removals from the electoral rolls and issues surrounding the SIR process.
On Monday, Congress organized demonstrations across Gujarat, demanding the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar amid claims of widespread name deletions from the voter list. Chavda, addressing party workers, stated that removing any legitimate voter’s name from the list is an attack on democratic rights.
He declared, “Voter fraud deceives people of their right to vote.” Chavda accused the Election Commission of becoming a puppet of the Modi government, questioning Kumar’s role and calling for his removal, with potential legal action if allegations are substantiated.
Chavda noted that since 2023, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has raised concerns about voter fraud through press conferences, marches, protests, signature campaigns, and interventions in Parliament.
According to Chavda, concerns regarding the SIR process have arisen from allegations of wrongful removals of genuine voters’ names and the addition of fake names to the voter list. He insisted that all accusations related to the electoral process and the Election Commission must be investigated fairly and in accordance with the law.
Tushar Chaudhary, the leader of the Congress Legislative Party, emphasized that the SIR process should not disenfranchise genuine voters, especially among marginalized communities such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and economically weaker sections in tribal areas. He called for transparent responses regarding the process and stressed that strict legal action should be taken if any irregularities are found.
