Patna, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Opposition parties are intensifying their demands for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, and the removal of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in favor of ballot papers. Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, has publicly endorsed this call for a return to traditional voting methods.
Yadav’s statement comes on the heels of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s similar demand for ballot paper elections. Speaking in Patna, Yadav emphasized that the push for ballot papers is not new for them. “Remove the machines and bring back the ballots,” he stated.
He referenced the upcoming meeting of the INDIA bloc on September 30 and highlighted the Election Commission‘s controversial role. Yadav raised concerns about alleged electoral fraud, suggesting that the BJP has benefited from these practices to win successive elections. He noted that this method was first implemented in Bihar before spreading nationwide. According to Yadav, two former election commissioners have exposed these fraudulent tactics.
A meeting of the INDIA alliance is scheduled for Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Constitution Club, where Yadav and other leaders plan to discuss these issues. He warned that if electoral fraud continues unchecked, it could undermine democracy and destroy constitutional institutions.
Yadav reiterated calls for Gyanesh Kumar’s arrest, accusing the BJP of misusing institutions to maintain power. The public must recognize the importance of removing the BJP from governance for the sake of democracy.
Mayawati also stressed the need for voters to trust that their votes are counted accurately, emphasizing that any doubt surrounding the voting process poses a serious threat to democracy.
