Patna, 25 August (Kiran News): Ongoing heavy rainfall has led to flood-like conditions in Patna, as well as in the districts of Nalanda, Jehanabad, and Gaya in Bihar. The water level of the Ganga River at Digha Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, and Mokama’s Hathidah Ghat in Patna is steadily rising and now stands just one to three metres below the danger mark.

Following instructions from Patna District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan SM, engineers from the Water Resources Department and local officials conducted inspections. Repair work is underway at the zamindari embankment of the Mahtamain river near Jeevanchak in Daniyawan and at the damaged embankment in Fatuha.

In Danarua block, adjacent to Patna, five rivers are in spate, damaging paddy crops over 1,600 acres. Due to the swelling Falgu river, the Kararua, Bhuthahi, and Mahtain rivers passing through Danarua have flooded. Water from the Kararua and Bhuthahi rivers has entered dozens of villages between Armal and Chakramal at six different locations.

Near Atapur, a breach in the embankment allowed water to enter the village. The local Circle Officer immediately began repairs. Floodwaters have entered around two dozen villages, including Baharampur, Vijaypura, Peda, and, in Chhati Panchayat, Amarapura, Simhari, Piprama, Nasratpur, and Rasulpur.

Farmers reported that this was their second round of paddy sowing, which has now suffered heavy losses.
